Chapter 702 702: Out On a Date.
"Wow, that was surprisingly good!" Merry exclaimed as they exited the theater. "To think the protagonist would turn on his friends in the end."
"Shush! People are going to hear you!"
It was almost the twenty second century and yet some people haven't learned to keep spoilers to themselves. The movie was over, and so Dante was leaving the theater along with his date for the night. From the looks of it, she seemed to have enjoyed it a lot more than he did.
[The technology used in this movie is entirely unrealistic.] Volcan said. [With that being said, it is quite interesting how humans can produce such concepts despite lacking the technological prowess to achieve them in reality.]
'If I learned anything from those movies, it would be that we don't want most of those technologies.'
It was a bit hypocritical for him to believe that after earning himself the name Cyberpunk, but he couldn't help the way he feels.
"So, how about dinner?" Dante asked. "I'm in the mood for some Lumerian cuisine. What about you?"
"That sounds nice." Merry replied. "And I know just the place!"
Dante hadn't expected her to be so proactive on this matter but decided to leave it to her anyway. He had planned for them to dine in one of the restaurants run by the Daggers, since most of the gang's territory could be said to be under his control. Not that he was worried about the security or anything like that. Merry was a rich young lady, one of the top 01%. Surely she knows some good places around this city.
"It has been a while since I went to Lumeria." She said, tapping the holographic screen projected by her bracelet.
"Hey, you don't plan on flying us there, do you?"
"Why? You got something else to do?" She asked. "If we take one of our jets, we should be back by tomorrow morning."
"I completely forget that you people are used to such things."
-Says the guy who teleported to the other side of the continent for some shrimp.-
As he heaved a sigh, Merry let out a chuckle.
"I'm joking, just joking. There is this restaurant a friend of father owns. I just got us a reservation."
The restaurant she mentioned was in the City Center, and as expected, it had a dress code. Thankfully, the owners and the managers knew the orange haired hero, so they didn't press them without making problems.
"They're staring, they're staring." Merry said as they walked inside. "Guess they do recognize you."
"That seems like it." Dante replied.
Not that long ago, he had massacred a large number of the city's upper class. A lot of filth still waits to be cleaned, so they probably didn't feel comfortable having around the man suspected of doing the first round. Merry seemed to quiet down as she walked beside him, and from her expression, it was clear that she wanted to delve deeper into the topic.
"I've looked into it, you know. A lot happened and-"
"Merry? Is that you?"
Someone called out, interrupting her before she could make things more awkward for them. Turning around, her eyes went wide as she seemed to recognize.
"Uncle Nathaniel! And Nunnally, too!"
An aging man approached them, followed by a red haired woman an a bunch of black suits. Dante thought they were just another upper class couple coming to enjoy their wealth, but a closer look told him that he recognized the man.
"Fancy meeting you here. Are you two out on a date?"
Merry's question seemed to draw a faint laugh out of the man.
"You could say that." He said. "It has been some time since Nunnally and I had a proper outing."
"What about you, Merry?" The red haired woman asked. "It's rare for you to be in the company of a gentleman."
Unlike their guards, it was only then that the couple seemed to notice Dante's presence. Both managed to keep their expressions under control, but the small change didn't escape Dante's attention.
"Ah, this is…"
"Dante Sokolov." Dante introduced himself. "It is nice to make your acquaintance, Mr. And Mrs. Eisenberg."
"Dante Sokolov, huh?" The man stared at him for a very long moment, the smile having left his eyes.
"The Golden Heart," Dante said. "I've heard a lot about the work you put in that company."
Among the companies he had tasked Volcan with keeping an eye on, the Golden Heart was one of the main targets for acquisitions. It specialized in the creation of artificial organs that have quickly become legitimate alternative bionics, but its true importance lies in it being one of a subsidiary of Eidolon.
"I have heard a lot about you as well." Nathaniel Eisenberg said. "Unfortunately, all of it was unconfirmed rumors."
"I've been the target of a lot of those as of late. Please don't let them bother you."
The tension was slowly building up as they continued their staring contest. Merry seemed to catch onto that, so she quickly stepped in.
"You know how Wolf is really into martial arts, right? Dante here was the only one able to keep up with him, so they have been sparing a lot lately."
"Wolf?" The red haired woman furrowed her brows.
"Yes. We were all going to have dinner, but he had work to do, so…"
"I see…"
Just as the awkward silence seemed to return, one of the black suits walked over and whispered something in Nathaniel's ear. The aging man then nodded, and the smile returned to his ashen face.
"I'm sorry, Merry. It seems I have some urgent business to take care of."
"That is quite alright, uncle. Just make sure to invite me to dinner sometime soon."
"I will clear out my schedule for the next weekend, then."
The aging man and his entouage soon left, and Dante couldn't help but heave a sigh as he watched them go.
"They sure don't seem to like me." He said.
"Well, can't say I'm surprised." Merry replied. "Their daughter was killed by a gang, after all."
