Chapter 681 - 400: Do I Look Like a Good Guy or a Bad Guy? (2)

"Bang!"The metal door panel caved inwards, revealing miscellaneous items piled in the hallway, apparently used to barricade it.

Liang Kuan reached out and tugged twice, the metal scraping made a loud noise.

"What do you want?!"

An elderly woman with a sharp and harsh appearance poked her head out from above, looking at the two of them warily.

Su Huan raised his head, his calm expression naturally turning anxious and fearful, "There are wolves chasing us below, can we take shelter here?"

The old woman finally noticed the wolf pack below, a flash of fright in her eyes, "So many wolves!"

Then she slammed the window shut.

Su Huan’s handsome face froze slightly; he turned his head to Liang Kuan and said, "Your neighbor is really heartless."

Liang Kuan mumbled, "I drive around all year, they’ve never seen me..."

Perhaps seeing that the wolves below weren’t moving, the old lady opened the window again, her droopy eyes looking at the two of them, and whispered, "Do you have any food?"

Su Huan paused slightly, then smirked, rummaging through his pocket for a snack he least liked, and tossed it up.

Sincerely, he said, "This is all I have left."

The old woman hastily caught it, seeing it was a prune, her eyes flashed with disappointment, "Even if I let you in, you wouldn’t survive. You can climb through the end window on the third floor and run out the other side. Don’t die here, it’s unlucky!"

With that, she shut the window mercilessly, no matter what Su Huan said, she wouldn’t open it.

Liang Kuan was a bit puzzled why Su Huan did this, but was habitually silent.

Su Huan’s eyes gleamed, "You live on the sixth floor?"

Liang Kuan nodded, "The hallway door is hard to open, let’s climb up."

Before the words were finished, Su Huan had already leaped up, glanced through the window, and seeing no one, decisively tore open the security bars, pushed the window in, and Liang Kuan followed closely, placing a shield behind to block the window.

The apartment was a two-room, one-hall layout, just over sixty square meters, relatively cramped.

He Jie’s family only had two people left, his wife had divorced many years ago, leaving only an elderly father and a daughter, so this small place was enough.

The house was small but cozy and clean, with no signs of intrusion other than the two of them.

A note left on the table caught Su Huan’s eye, and he sighed lightly, "They must have left voluntarily."

Liang Kuan sat on the ground, turning the note over and over.

The dainty handwriting was densely packed, recording miscellaneous information about the apocalypse and grandfather’s illness, but what caught Su Huan’s attention most was a mention of a "boyfriend."

The food they had wasn’t enough for three people, so at the boyfriend’s suggestion, they decided to move, looking for a richer food shelter.

No location was noted, probably undecided at the time, but the last note was over three months ago.

Every day in the apocalypse is hard, let alone over three months.

In case something did happen, by now there would be nothing left but memories.

Su Huan entered Liang Shu’s room, looked around, noticing items suggesting another man’s presence, he pondered, reviewing all the information.

Liang Kuan’s muffled voice came from the living room, "Let’s head back."

Su Huan raised an eyebrow, "And you?"

"I... want to search a bit longer."

"You don’t even have perception abilities, what would you find without me?"

"The train needs you."

Su Huan walked out, patted his broad shoulder, chuckling, "But my friend needs me more."

Liang Kuan’s body radiated heat like an erupting volcano, squeezing out one word, "Alright!"

"There aren’t any clues here, let’s look around outside."

The two jumped down from the floor, Liang Kuan didn’t ask where to go, silently following with a thick shield in hand.

Su Huan glanced around, he didn’t go looking for the old lady, but moved forward.

There were more people here, which meant more information.

Before they reached the broken window the old lady mentioned, a burly man poked his head out, waving them over.

"I’ve got food here, want some?"

Su Huan’s face brightened, "Sure, of course!"

"..."

The old lady, who’d been watching from her spot, sighed as she saw the two welcomed in, "Another pair of fools who ignore warnings."

Before she could finish her sigh, a figure fell from the fourth floor, landing right in front of the wolf pack, half-alive, moaning in pain.

Shock crossed the old woman’s rigid face, then two more figures flew out one after another.

"Oh my, two big shots from out of town!"

The pretty young man dragged another person below her window, saying he wanted some information.

"That boy is quite attractive, if I were thirty years younger, I’d definitely taste him." The old lady muttered, but had no intention of opening the window.

"If you don’t come out, I’ll come in!"

The clear voice penetrated doors and windows.

The old lady snorted coldly, "Think I’m easily scared? I was quite a character in my younger days!"

Five minutes later, the old lady sat nervously on the living room sofa, steeping tea, struggling to maintain a kindly smile, "Want something to drink?"

Su Huan stood on the short and stout man, smiling faintly, "No need to drink, I’m afraid you’d poison me."

The old lady gave an awkward smile, "Impossible, the rat poison’s expired, couldn’t kill anyone."

"I heard you saw Liang Shu?"

Su Huan cut straight to the point.

Seeing it was unrelated to her, the old lady quietly sighed in relief.

"She left over three months ago, but her boyfriend came back once about a month ago."

"Was he alone?"

"Yes, I always thought he was no good, probably sold that poor girl! The guy wasn’t local, likely from the south, with a shifty face, didn’t look good from the start...."

Talking about scumbags, the old woman’s eyes lit up, she seemed to have quite a history in her youth.

Su Huan quietly listened until she ran out of steam and began veering into her youthful anecdotes before interrupting.

"Okay, I won’t take up more of your time then."

Su Huan stood up.

"Won’t you stay a bit longer?"

The old lady licked her lips, that prune only made her hungrier.

Su Huan stomped on the short and stout man beneath him, "Do you want him?"

The old woman was dumbfounded, "Why would I want him?"

"Oh, then I’ll take him out."

Su Huan hoisted the man, turned at the door, "Not keeping him for food?"

The old lady shivered, her eyes filled with disgust and coldness, "I’m not like them, when I’m done I’ll go my own way, no need to sin at the end."

Su Huan chuckled twice, placed his last two chocolates on the shoe cabinet, and dragged the man out.

The snacks were placed by Yu Yue, a few days didn’t matter to him.

Then he kicked the man dead, throwing him out the window to feed the wolves.

Once they left, the old lady slumped on the sofa, "Scared me to death, thought he wanted to eat me...."

Su Huan commented as he walked, "The guy had company when he came back, likely joining some organization, it simplifies things."

Liang Kuan hesitated, "But we don’t understand local organizations."

"Then we’ll have to use the old methods."

Su Huan smiled mysteriously.

They led the wolves back to the liquor store they saw upon entering.

The weasel didn’t expect their return, caught red-handed.

Su Huan kicked through the glass door, grabbed the weasel by the neck, and shook him, maliciously asking, "Do I look like a good guy or a bad guy?"
